This blog—those are still cool, right?—will serve a number of purposes. First and foremost, it’s a chronicle of my lumbering, awkward journey toward (I hope) actually getting a screenplay made into a TV show or movie. As someone completely on the outside of the industry (unless you count writing essays for films like Human Lanterns and Hell Has No Boundary for Vinegar Syndrome Blu-ray releases), with no contacts in the business, no friends or even distant acquaintances who have had a script produced, no idea how to get a literary manager (let alone an agent), living far away from Hollywood, and basically with nothing going for me other that gumption and pluck to make me recommendable, I figure what I lack in success I can make up for by documenting what I am doing and what (if anything) actually ends up working so that others may, if not learn from my experience, at least be amused by it.

It’s second purpose is to serve as a place for me to kick around thoughts about storytelling, film and television, characters, and whatever else may occur to me. Before I launched this foolhardy venture, I wrote film reviews and analysis for a site called Teleport City—one of the oldest cult film sites on the internet, though of late it’s admittedly in a state of mild disrepair. So maybe I’ll do a bit of that here, though it will likely not be straight film reviews.

I’ll also be writing about writing, because nothing is better than writers writing about writing. But while I may not have success and I may not have an IMDB page, I have a reasonably passable skill at writing. The process of developing a character, getting things correct, doing research, even the thrilling world of formatting a document (apparently the single most important thing in the trade, which I get—doing it properly shows you at least made the effort to be a professional)—as with other topics, whatever comes to mind.

And finally, this is a place to simply log progress, promote friends who are also undertaking the same endeavor, and generally just be, I don’t know, helpful if I can be?

And yes, I know the internet decided em dashes are a signifier that something was written by AI. That’s not the case—I just dig em dashes, man.
